Season ends for Olivet with 37-12 loss to John Carroll in NCAA Playoffs

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Olivet College football team saw its season come to an end with a 37-12 loss to John Carroll (Ohio) University today at Wasmer Field and inside the Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blue Streaks completed three third down plays on their opening drive en route to putting the first six points on the scoreboard. Sam Kukura scored the touchdown from five yards out.
  • Olivet was forced to punt on its opening drive of the game.
  • John Carroll added to its lead with 3:35 when Anthony Moeglin completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Leonetti. The PAT kick was good to make the score 13-0.
  • The Comets scored their first touchdown with 5:57 left in the second quarter on a one-yard run by junior Jerome Washington. The two-point conversion attempt was no good.
  • The Blue Streaks scored 12 unanswered points to go up 25-6 at halftime.
  • The first six points were scored on a 48-yard screen pass from Moeglin to Marshall Howard. The PAT kick was blocked for a second time.
  • The final six points were on a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown by Eddie Williamson.
  • John Carroll added to its lead with 12 points in the third quarter to up 37-6.
  • Olivet scored its final touchdown with 4:13 remaining in the game. Sophomore quarterback Lane Porter snuck into to the end zone from a yard out to cap a nine-play, 70-yard drive.

FOR THE COMETS

  • For the game, Olivet recorded 13 first downs and 183 yards of offense.
  • Senior Damorria Lilly had 19 carries for 34 yards.
  • Porter completed 15-of-23 passes for 140 yards.
  • Senior Mitchell Bailey caught a team-leading five passes for 33 yards.
  • Freshman Jacob Jodway hauled in four passes for 44 yards.
  • Defensively, senior Thomas Gary-Homes and junior Walter Love III each had nine tackles.

FOR THE BLUE STREAKS

  • John Carroll registered 22 first downs and 382 yards of offense – 106 on the ground and 276 through the air.
  • Arin Pruitt topped the ground game with seven carries for 42 yards.
  • Anthony Moeglin threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns on 21-of-34 passing.
  • Howard caught nine passes for 118 yards.
  • Nico James had three catches for 50 yards.
  • Ray Brown led the Blue Streaks with 10 tackles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Comets finish the season with a 9-2 record.
