FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- E'Montie Dears set a new Methodist single-game rushing record and scored three touchdowns as MU defeated Greensboro 38-6 on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

Dears carried the ball 33 times for 208 yards and scored on runs of 31, five and six yards. His 208 yards broke the previous record of 200 yards set by Greg McDonald back in 1999. On Methodist's second possession, the Monarchs were forced to punt, but a fumble on the return was recovered by Reshad Washington and set MU up on the Greensboro 31 yard line. Dears scored on the very next play to give MU a 7-0 lead at the 10:49 mark of the first quarter.

MU's second score came on a 30-yard punt return by Kevin Cambronne at the 2:38 mark of the period. The return came after just a 10-yard punt by Ryan Campbell and when nobody downed the ball, Cambronne picked it up and scampered 30 yards untouched to paydirt for a 14-0 lead.

The Monarchs' lead grew to 21-0 by halftime as Xavier Adams hooked up with Jay Robinson on a 26-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter.

Landon Cheviron added a 22-yard field goal to make it 24-0 in the third quarter before Dears scored his final two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a 38-0 lead with 7:24 to play.

Greensboro's lone score came on a 10-yard pass from Mac Graham to Tavares Thomas with 5:59 left. Campbell's kick was no good.
