Harris Named SCIAC Football Player of the Week

More news about: Occidental

LOS ANGELES -- Cordell Harris did it all on Saturday and the SCIAC took notice.

The Occidental football team's senior wide receiver and return man was his usual standout self on offense and special teams, but also played defensive back, intercepting a pass and making six tackles.

He ran back a kick off for a 96-yard touchdown, and caught six passes for 62 yards and a touchdown, leading Oxy to a 56-38 win over Whittier in the Battle for the Shoes Rivalry Game at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Harris, who was an All-SCIAC wide receiver last season, is leading the SCIAC in receptions per game (8.0) and all purpose yards (186.7), is fifth in receiving yards per game (80.7), and third in receiving touchdowns (6).

Harris, a Portland, Ore. native, is sixth all-time in Oxy history with 1,886 receiving yards and is likely Oxy's all-time receptions leader, a stat that has only been formally kept for the last 15 years.

The Tigers have two games remaining in their season. Oxy plays at Cal Lutheran on Saturday and then at Chapman on Nov. 12.
