EWING, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (2-6, 1-6 NJAC) fell 42-28 at The College of New Jersey (1-7, 1-6 NJAC) Oct. 29.

The Lions struck first thanks to a Shane Kelley 27-yard interception return for a touchdown and a Brian Nagy extra-point kick, making it a 7-0 score with 12:37 remaining in the first half.

Junior running back Chad Scott carried from three yards out for a 14-0 margin with 4:29 on the clock in the second quarter, but a 57-yard completion from junior quarterback James Waldron (Edison, N.J./Edison) to senior wide receiver Anthony DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y./Suffern) and a PAT by sophomore Nick DeAngelis (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) made it a 14-7 game two minutes later.

A sack and fumble gave TCNJ the ball at the WP-19, and four plays later junior quarterback Trevor Osler had a two-yard scoring run for a 21-7 lead six seconds before halftime.

During the opening possession of the second half, Waldron found senior wide receiver Malcolm Robinson (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) for a 21-yard touchdown, cutting the advantage to 21-14 with 11:00 on the clock.

The Lions answered with a 10-play, 56-yard drive capped by a Scott five-yard rush for a 28-14 score with 4:37 left in the third quarter, and a TCNJ sack and forced fumble set up a Scott two-yard scoring run three minutes later (35-14, 1:25).

A 71-yard Waldron pass play to Robinson added six points for WP, and when the two-point attempt failed, the Pioneers trailed 35-20 with two seconds remaining in the third.

Scott tacked on a three-yard TD carry midway through the fourth quarter (42-20, 6:10). Waldron tossed an eight-yard touchdown to DiMarsico, then carried for the two-point conversion for a 42-28 margin with 1:54 left.

Waldron finished 21-for-32 for 389 yards, four touchdowns and one interception, and junior running back Aqeel Daniels-Lundy (Edison, N.J./Edison) carried six times for eight yards. Robinson caught six passes for 161 yards and a pair TDs, while DiMarsico hauled in seven passes for 124 yards and two scores.

Senior defensive back Pat Moran (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) made a game-high 12 tackles (seven solo), while junior linebacker Charles Faulkner (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) finished with 10 stops.

Osler completed six of 10 passes for 59 yards, and added a two-yard scoring run for TCNJ. Scott gained 137 yards and scored four times on 29 attempts, and senior wide receiver Jeff Mattonelli caught two passes for 31 yards.

Kelley added seven tackles to his interception and forced fumble. Sophomore Connor Owen chipped in six stops (1.5 TFL) and a pass breakup.

The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1:00 p.m. against Christopher Newport.
