Millikin Football Knocks off Augustana

         The Millikin University football team knocked off Augustana College 43-35 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Illinois on October 15.

         The Big Blue got six touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Nicco Stepina in route to its second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) win of the season.

         Millikin jumped out to a 21-0 lead and built a 27-7 advantage at the half.

         The Big Blue scored on its first possession when Stepina connected with Gerald Perry on a 31 yard touchdown pass.  Stepina would hit Perry again this time on a 70 yard touchdown pass to make it 13-0 Millikin.  The Big Blue would strike with another

big play with 3:07 left in the half when Stepina found David Jackson for a 44 yard touchdown.

         The Vikings then scored on a quick drive when Luke Bleyer connected with Danny Lattner on a 29 yard touchdown play to make it 20-6 with 1:10 left in the half.

         The Big Blue weren't done with its first half offensive explosion as they covered 60 yards in five plays in just 29 seconds to make it 27-7 at the half.  A Stepina to Perry 30 yard pass helped fuel the drive that ended with a Stepina to Jordan Smith 14 yard touchdown.

         Stepina and Smith put up a four yard touchdown and linebacker Nikia Averitte scored a third quarter safety to make it 33-13 at the end of three quarters.

         Millikin put the game away early in the fourth on a Stepina to Avante Meriwether 14 yard pass.

         The Vikings scored three fourth quarter touchdowns to make it a 43-35 final.

         Stepina ended the night 21-31 passing for 344 yards.  Perry had eight catches for 177 yards.  Kyle McMahon led Millikin's rushing attack with 48 yards on 15 carries.

         Bleyer was 19-31 for 219 yards with three touchdowns for the Vikings.  Lattner had 10 catches for 147 yards and two scores.

         Averitte had eight tackles for Millikin.  Gabe Xayathone had 5.5 tackles with three sacks.

         Millikin improves to 3-3, 2-2 while Augustana goes to 2-5, 1-4.

         Millikin will travel to Carroll University on October 22.
