Fast start, another home win for Tommies

No. 4-ranked St. Thomas scored three touchdowns in the game's first 6:34 on the clock en route to a 62-10 defeat of visiting Carleton in MIAC football play Saturday at Palmer Field in O'Shaughnessy Stadium.

The Tommies (3-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) had five touchdowns of 47 or more yards, all in the first half as they led 48-3 after two quarters.

Senior Joe Reed had TD receptions of 47 and 62 yards from senior QB Alex Fenske. Freshman Josh Parks had TD runs of 70 and 57 yards. Junior Tanner Vik caught a 61-yard TD pass from sophomore QB Jacques Perra.

St. Thomas had no punts, rolled up 614 yards, and averaged 10 yards a play. Nine different Toms scored points. Seventeen Tommies had eiher a rush or reception, and more than 110 UST players were inserted into the game.

The Tommie defense had an interception from Adam Kraft; 11 tackles for loss; and forced nine punts while limiting Carleton to 161 net offensive yards. That included 44 net rushing yards on 36 carries.

UST won its 13th game in a row against MIAC competition and its 14th game in a row at home.

Zach Creighton rushed for 41 yards and passed for 58 yards for the Knights (0-3, 0-1). Ethan Trujillo threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Logan Emholtz in the third period to cap an 11-play, 49-yard drive.

The Tommies travel to Collegeville on Sept. 24 to face 3-0 and No. 8-ranked St. John's in a clash of top-10 ranked teams.
