Brockport Blanks Alfred St.; Posts First Win in Convincing Fashion

More news about: Brockport

ALFRED, N.Y. – The College at Brockport football team posted a convincing 49-0 win over Alfred State on Saturday night.  The shutout marks the first time the Golden Eagles have held their opponent scoreless since Oct. 11, 2014 when Brockport defeated Frostburg State 46-0.  The Golden Eagles improve to 1-1 while the Pioneers fall to 0-2.

Brockport earned 21 first downs to Alfred's eight, while out rushing the Pioneers 207 to 57.  The Golden Eagles reached 408-yards of offense, averaging 6.5 yards per play.

There was no score after the first quarter of play but the Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard on their first drive of the second quarter.  Brockport completed the 58-yard drive with an eight yard run from Joe Germinerio.

The Golden Eagle defense forced Alfred to punt three-and-out on their next possession but a fumble on the punt return allowed Alfred to regain the ball.  The Brockport defense stood tall again, forcing a turnover on downs.

Brian McKean led the offense 64-yards to the end zone to go ahead 14-0.  Three straight receptions from Joseph Ortiz put Brockport in the red zone.  Facing third and one from the one-yard line, Dan Andrews snuck across the goal line for his first touchdown of the day.  Brett Renzi's extra point attempt was good to put Brockport ahead 14-0 at the half.

Midway through the third quarter Ray Johnson returned a punt 54-yards to the Alfred 11-yard line.  Andrews advanced the Golden Eagles inside the ten but a false start put the Golden Eagles back to the eleven.  McKean connected with Andrews on the next play and Renzi converted the extra point to increase Brockport's lead to 21.

On the ensuing drive, Ian Gilhousen caught a pass for 44-yards, his longest of the day, from Germinerio.  Andrews rushed 11-yards for a first down, followed by two runs for 14-yards from Germinerio to cap off the two-minute drive with a touchdown, putting Brockport up 28-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Brockport extended its lead to 35-0 after McKean completed a 49-yard pass to Andrews who started the drive with two six-yard runs.

Alfred reached the Brockport 28-yard line on their next possession.  A pass to the end zone was intercepted by Jason Howard, the first of his career.  Marquez Jackson-Allen advanced Brockport 17-yards with three straight carries followed by a 63-yard touchdown run from Germinerio to make the score 42-0.

The Pioneers started a drive with just over three minutes to play at their own ten-yard line.  They tabbed one first down but Dalton Cooley forced a fumble at the 16-yard line that was picked up by Ricky Lipani and returned for Brockport's final score of the day.

McKean finished 12-for-14 on the day, passing for 164-yards and throwing two touchdowns.  Germinerio finished 5-for-6 for 38-yards while leading in rushing yards with 99-yards.  Andrews tabbed 22 carries for 80-yards and one TD, while leading receivers with 73-yards and two TDs.

Jason Howard led the Golden Eagle defense with six tackles, five of which were solo.  In addition to the interception, Howard also tabbed one tackle for loss of six-yards.  Terry McDonald recorded five tackles including two for loss.  Daron Roper, Julius Brunson and Austin Dean each tabbed three tackles.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road again next weekend when they head to Hartwick College for their first Empire 8 game of the season.  Kick off is slated for 2 pm on Saturday.  Brockport will return home on Sept. 24 to host St. John Fisher College in the 12th annual Courage Bowl to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times.
