More news about: Hendrix
SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Hendrix College football team claimed the Southern Athletic Association title with a 19-0 win at Sewanee - The University of the South Saturday afternoon.

Coming into the day, the Warriors (8-2, 7-1) needed a win over the Tigers (1-9, 0-8) and for Centre College to beat Berry College. The Colonels helped the Warriors with a 30-23 win over the Vikings, to give Hendrix the SAA title in their third year since bringing back football and a trip to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

Hendrix, coached by Buck Buchanan, will find out their playoff fate during Sunday's selection show at 5 p.m.

Sewanee ate up 5:25 of clock on their first drive, but turned it over on downs on the Warrior 8-yard line. Seth Peters completed 30 and 35-yard passes to Spencer Smith and Dayton Winn rushed the ball into endzone from 20 yards out, giving Hendrix a 6-0 lead after four plays and only 1:18 of possession.

Hendrix scored again on their next drive. Peters completed a 24-yard pass to junior Ethan Hoppe, then Winn rattled off a 41-yard run. The big plays set up a 20-yard pass from Peters to Ben Luedtke, who was tackled at the Tiger 1. Winn punched it in on the next play for his second score of the day. The Warrior extra point attempt was missed again.

The game remained 12-0 until 3:32 left in the game. Peters found Hoppe for a 27-yarder and freshman Garrett Wolf's extra point was good, giving the Warriors the 19-0 win.

For the game, Hendrix only ran 50 plays for 339 yards in only 18:29 of possession. Sewanee ran 77 plays for 272 yards, an average of 3.5 per play, and held the ball for 41:31.
