Do Breaks SCIAC Career Rushing Yards Record

More news about: Occidental

LOS ANGELES — Kwame Do ran his way into the SCIAC record book.

But the Occidental football team didn't have enough juice in a 41-14 loss to Redlands in their season finale at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Season Impact: The Tigers finish the season in third place at 5-4 overall and 4-3 in SCIAC for the third year in a row.

Redlands finishes the year at 4-5 overall and 4-3 in SCIAC.

Do, already Oxy's single season rushing yards and career rushing yards record holder, broke Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Ryan Gocong's previous SCIAC record of 4,044 career rushing yards with a 29-yard touchdown run on a direct snap in the second quarter. He finished with 130 yards on 29 carries, marking the 13 consecutive game that he's run for at least 100 yards. The senior from San Mario upped his career total and the new record to 4,133 yards. He also reset his Oxy single season rushing record with 1,571 yards during 2015.

But Do was one of only a few bright spots for the Tigers.

Redlands took control of the game in the first half after Colin Spencer took a punt 75-yards into the end zone for the game's first score. On the ensuing kickoff, Oxy's Cordell Harris fumbled and Redlands recovered. The Bulldogs scored five plays later when Jacob Guglielmana ran in a 5-yard score.

Zachary Hunter sparked Occidental with a pair of forced fumbles, one in each half. He also had a sack, recovered one of the fumbles he forced and led Oxy with nine tackles.

Marcus McDuffie chipped in seven tackles and Casey Dudley had an interception.

The Tigers were in it until Trevor Raras strip-sacked Oxy quarterback Bryan Scott in the third quarter. Josiah Alvia put Redlands up 28-7 with a rushing touchdown shortly after.

Oxy quarterback Bryan Scott was 33 of 53 for 281 yards. His lone touchdown was a 31-yarder toIsaiah Amaechi with 4:26 left in the third quarter, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 28-14.

Harris had seven catches for 51 yards, Carlton O'Neal caught six for 42 and Kaleb Mitchell had four catches for 50 yards for the Tigers.

Redlands quarterback Kevin Russell was one of the game's best runners, evading Oxy tacklers when plays broke down. He finished with 11 carries for 75 yards. He was 8 of 16 for 120 yards and one touchdown through the air.

Yoshio Hasegawa made a handful of standout catches for the Bulldogs, ending the game with three for 82 yards.
