William Paterson Football Suffers Senior Day Loss Against No. 12/11 Wesley

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (2-8, 1-8 NJAC) ended its season with a 63-0 Senior Day loss against No. 12/11 Wesley (9-1, 8-1 NJAC) Nov. 14.

 

Following a fumble recovery, the Wolverines opened the scoring 5:38 into the contest when senior quarterback Joe Callahan connected on a quick five-yard toss to the right pylon to junior Bryce Shade. Junior James Okike broke several tackles up the left sideline for a 58-yard scoring pass play from Callahan and a 14-0 edge with 3:52 left in the opening period.

 

Callahan found Okike again, this time for a 19-yard completion to the back-left corner of the end zone, making it a 21-0 score 24 seconds into the second quarter. Okike then hauled in his third TD of the game, a nine-yard pass by Callahan to the right pylon, with 8:00 on the clock in the second period.

 

Shade got behind the defense and then broke up the seam, a 78-yard scoring pass play from Callahan to make it a 35-0 margin at the 4:49 mark. Callahan found Shade for a 54-yard score with 54 seconds left in the first half, and following a WP fumble of the ensuing kickoff, Wesley finished the half with a 17-yard pass play from Callahan to senior tight end Kyle George as time expired for a 49-0 lead.

 

Sophomore quarterback Dan Kesack ran for a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, the first around the right end for 16 yards (56-0, 12:12) and the second on a fake to the right and a roll to the left side (63-0, 1:59).

 

Junior quarterback Anthony DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y./Suffern) was 3-for-14 for 21 yards under center, and rushed 20 times for 75 yards.

 

Senior linebacker Carlo Caponetta (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) led the Pioneer defense with nine tackles, and senior defensive back Tom Hennessy (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) contributed eight stops.

 

Callahan was 19-for-25 for 363 yards and seven touchdowns during the first half. Kesack led the team in rushing with five attempts for 43 yards and two scores, and Shade caught seven passes for 172 yards and three TDs.

 

Sophomore linebacker Samer Manna paced the Wolverines with eight tackles and a fumble recovery, and senior strong safety James Williamson collected seven stops (3.5 TFL).
