More news about: Husson

Bangor, Maine – Joe Seccareccia was responsible for five of the seven touchdowns on the day to help propel the Eagles to a 49-30 win against Becker in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) action on Saturday at Winkin Sports Complex.

Husson (4-1, 3-0 ECFC) wins its tenth-straight league game, while Becker (3-3, 1-2 ECFC) loses its third-consecutive to the Eagles and falls to 3-9 in the series.

Seccareccia connected on 24-of-35 passes for 282 yards with three touchdowns and ran for two more on four carries for 10 yards. He now has 31 career passing touchdowns, tying him for the most in program history with David Chase.

Robenson Saintard scored the first touchdown of the game for the Eagles on a 17-yard run at the 12:32 mark of the first quarter. Becker answered right back 14 seconds later when DeJhan Dawkins caught a 70 yard pass from Nick Sinkfield-Shelton to tie the game at 7.

The Eagles regain the lead with 1:05 left in the first after an 18 play – 73 yard drive that lasted well over eight minutes when Seccareccia found Deon Wiggins in the back of the endzone for his first touchdown of the game.

Becker added a 31 yard field goal from Jacob Holmes to cut the Husson lead to four points at the 12:22 mark in the second. Husson extended their lead to eleven, five minutes later when Seccareccia connected on a 18-yard pass to Joe Farrell for his second touchdown of the game to give the Eagles a 21-10 lead at half.

The Hawks struck first in the second half when Sinkfield-Shelton found Dawkins for the second time for a 33 yard touchdown pass, making the game 21-17. The Eagles answered right back on a 11 play, 71 yard drive with a 7-yard quarterback draw by Seccareccia for his third touchdown of the game.

With 10:55 left in the game Sinkfield-Shelton scored on a 1 yard quarterback sneak to cut the Husson lead to four again, but 12 seconds later John Smith ran for 70-yard score to put the Eagles back up by eleven. Becker scored once again with 7:05 left to go, when Sinkfield-Shelton found Dawkins for the third time for a 10 yard score making the game 35-30. The Hawks attempted to go for a 2pt conversion but failed when Jean Gabriel broke up the try.

Husson put the game out of reach on Seccareccia's third touchdown pass of the game and his fourth overall when he found Smith for a 25 yard score with 4:14 left in the game. On the very next Becker drive the Eagles' defensive forced the Hawks to turn the ball over on four downs and Seccareccia scored his fifth and final touchdown of the game with 27 second left to go on a 1-yard quarterback sneak.

Husson totaled 514 yards of offense in the victory with 282 yards coming in the air and 232 on the ground in a game that saw a combined total of 923 yards of total offense from both teams.

Smith carried the ball for a game high 39 times for 197 yards with one touchdown and caught one pass for 25 yards with one touchdown.

Wiggins was Seccareccia's main target on the day, making a single-game record of nine catches for 82 yards and one touchdown bring his season total to six, tying him with the single-season school record for receiving touchdowns.

Sinkfield-Shelton completed 23 for 42 pass for 349 yards with three touchdowns in the defeat.

Dawkins caught eight passes for 200 yards for three touchdowns in the loss.

Gabriel and Rick Orio paced the Husson defense with eight tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss (tfl). Bryant Wade added eight tackles and one tfl, while Luke Washburn and Jack Goldberg each finished with one sacks. Wade forced a fumble and Jordan Hersom had an interception. Orio and Ian Palmer each recovered a fumble.  Ellis Throckmorton record two assist tackles on the day to become the all-time career leader with 77. The previous mark of 76 was held by All-American Stephan Dance.

The Hawks' defense saw a game-high 14 tackles from Josh Lawrence, 11 from Nicholas Sherman and 10 from Davin Collins. Collins and Darius Blagmon each had one interception.

Husson will travel to Washington D.C. on Saturday, Oct. 24 to face Gallaudet for a 1 p.m. kickoff and Becker will host Mount Ida for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
