MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (1-3, 0-3 NJAC) suffered a 64-7 loss at Montclair State (1-3, 1-2 NJAC) Oct. 3.

The two teams traded punts until MSU senior quarterback Ryan Davies connected with senior wide receiver Aaron Williams for a 52-yard touchdown. Sophomore Frank Schneeber kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 2:00 remaining in the first quarter. Davies found Williams again, this time for a 12-yard score, for a 14-0 margin with 4:45 on the clock during the second quarter. Senior running back Denzel Nieves entered the end zone from 11 yards out (21-0, 0:35, second quarter), and senior defensive back Eric Gargiulo returned an interception 42 yards for a score to give the Red Hawks a 28-0 edge 15 seconds before halftime.

After the Pioneers missed a field goal early in the second half, junior Jaquan Spann registered a 61-yard punt return for a touchdown (35-0, 8:57, third). MSU then turned an interception into a 26-yard Schneeber field goal and a 38-0 margin with 5:26 left in the third quarter.

Freshman Willie Barr added a 21-yard rushing touchdown (44-0, 1:34) late in the third and a three-yard scoring carry (51-0, 10:22) early in the fourth quarter. Freshman running back Akeer Franklin crossed the goal line from 38 yards out two minutes later, but the point-after attempt was no good (57-0, 8:21, fourth).

Sophomore quarterback James Waldron (Edison, N.J./Edison) threw a three-yard touchdown to senior running back Dwaine Dabney (Summit, N.J./Summit) with 5:27 remaining and freshman Nick DeAngelis (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) kicked the extra point to get the Pioneers on the scoreboard.

Freshman Nassan Anderson finished the scoring with a one-yard run with 1:34 left in the contest.

Waldron finished 7-for-23 for 66 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, and senior running back Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) carried eight times for 28 yards.

Junior defensive backs Pat Moran (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) and Corey Morris (Linden, N.J./Long Branch) each made six tackles.

Davies was 10-for-14 for 160 yards and two touchdowns for the Red Hawks. Barr rushed five times for 60 yards and two scores, and Williams caught six passes for 109 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior linebacker Michael Tenpenny collected seven tackles.
