DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- With over 1,700 people in attendance Saturday evening at Malosky Stadium, the St. Scholastica football team ran over Martin Luther College by a score of 53-13, scoring 47 points in the first half alone.

The Action
CSS came out hungry, establishing both the passing game as well as a ground attack, scoring two rushing touchdowns as well as one receiving touchdown in the first quarter alone.

Preston Robinson was the first player to cross the goal line for the Saints with a 2-yard rushing TD early in the first quarter. Robinson ended the day with a total of 71 yards on seven attempts, including a 59-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Running back turned wide receiver Hunter Thompson showcased his versatility by scoring both rushing and receiving touchdowns within seven and a half minutes into the game. Thompson wasn't finished there however, as he also scored on a 53-yard pass from quarterback Kyle Stepka. Thompson ended the day with 116 yards on three receptions.

The Saints' first scoring drive was 10 plays. Their next two scoring drives totaled two plays and 67 yards. The offense didn't even touch the ball on the third score when Kenneth Jinkins returned a punt 80 yards to make it 27-0. Another one-play drive followed when Robinson took that 59-yard run to the house. CSS's second quarterback on the day, Mike Mensing scampered in from 10 yards out and the Saints' third quarterback Earl Butler found Taj Winston for St. Scholastica's lone score of the second half.

The three Saints quarterbacks combined to go 9-for-16 for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Stepka was 4-for-6 for 113 yards and two TDs. CSS ran for 231 yards on the ground and held the Knights to 188 yards.

Although the offensive numbers clearly stood out, St. Scholastica's defensive game was on point as well, allowing only 13 points, both coming later in the second half when victory was clearly in sight. Michael Pender and Neil Vierzba each recorded one sack on the day, while the team as a whole managed six tackles for a loss. Vierzba led the team with seven tackles.
