USA College Football Release

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - USA College Football announced its 2014 Division III All-American Team, naming Maritime football senior cornerback Chris Klass (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) to the second team.

The Nanuet, N.Y native was a dual player on the field, playing both defensive back for the Privateers and was also a return specialist for the Privateers. This past season, Klass set the Maritime single-season record for kick return yards in a season with 461 yards. He also had four punt returns for 60 yards on the year. On the season, he also had a year-best 83 return yards against eventual ECFC Champion Husson.

Meanwhile as a defensive back, Klass had 28 tackles on the season, and also led the ECFC with six interceptions. He broke up seven passes in 2014 and also had two blocked kicks, which was good enough for second in the ECFC and 20th in all of Division III. He was a two-time ECFC Defensive Player of the Week during his senior campaign, and also accomplished a rare feat in the ECFC as a three-time All-Conference honoree.

For his career, Klass ended up first on Maritime's all-time interceptions list with 11. He is listed among the top five in the Maritime Football Records in a variety of categories, including tied for 1st in fumbles recovered with four, and also tied for 1st in interceptions returned for touchdowns.

He also finished his career 2nd all-time in pass breakups with 20, 3rd in interception return yards with 67, was also tied for 3rd in blocked kicks, and 7th in all-purpose yards at Maritime with 1,538 to his credit.

Along with Klass, there were a handful of ECFC conference members, including offensive lineman Alex Young from Husson, and defensive back Stephen Dance, also from Husson. In addition to Klass, other second teamers included defensive lineman Dom Spaulding from Mount Ida, and Kyle Funesti from Norwich. Return specialist Kevin Alberque from Castleton State was also a second teamer.
On the third team was defensive back Jovan Wilkins from Mount Ida, while on the Freshman All-Star squad was Luke Washburn and John Smith from Husson, Devin Broadley from Mount Ida, and Eric Decker from Castleton State.

Following the team's 4-6 season in 2014, Maritime is slated to be back on the field in early September to kick off the 2015 campaign.
