Hiram closes out 2014 campaign with 35-13 win over Oberlin

HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College football team wrapped up the 2014 season with a 35-13 victory over Oberlin on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers finish the season at 5-5 overall and 4-5 in the NCAC, while the Yeoman conclude their season at 2-8, 2-7.

Hiram's five wins are the most for the program since 1988. Saturday's win also clinches the Terriers first non-losing season since 1988.

Senior James Romanowski (Chargrin Falls/Kenston) led Hiram with 11 tackles and a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Senior Robert Partridge (Massillon/Massillon Washington) threw for 168 yards and also ran for 47 more for the Terriers. Partridge concludes the season with 2,317 yards of total offense, which is a new single-season school record.

Sophomore Eric Ramey (Bristol, Va.) finished with 30 yards rushing and a touchdown and junior Jaylen Dinard (Tampa, Fla./Paul R. Wharton) had five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.

The Terriers marched right down the field on their opening possession. Freshman Jacolby Goldsmith (Houston, Tex./Bellaire) scored a five-yard touchdown to cap off the nine-play, 50-yard drive.

Partridge scored on a one-yard bootleg early in the second quarter to push Hiram's lead to 14-0.

Dinard would haul in a 23-yard pass from Partridge with 7:15 left in the first half, to push the Terriers lead to 21-0.

Oberlin would get on the board with 7:47 left in the third quarter, on a three-yard touchdown reception by Justin Cruz.

The Yeoman would recover a onside kick of the ensuing kickoff and Lucas Poggiali found Cruz for a 20-yard touchdown strike on the next play. Romanowski blocked the extra point, allowing the Terriers to hold a 21-13 lead.

Oberlin would cross midfield early the fourth. But junior Andrew Torres (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner) would intercept a Poggiali pass to put an end to the drive.

Hiram was unable to score on its next possession and Pioggiali was intercepted by Romanowski, who returned it down the right sideline for a 15-yard touchdwon.

Ramey would score from seven yards out with 37 seconds remaining to give Hiram a 35-13 advantage.

Poggiali finished with 155 yards passing and Cruz had nine receptions for 80 yards.

Hiram outgained Oberlin 333-253 in the contest.
