Rundle Stands Alone

More news about: Albion

ALMA, Mich. – Craig Rundle now owns more victories than anyone who has ever coached the Albion College football program after the Britons took down Alma College, 35-13, in its final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest of the season.

Rundle is 105-75 since taking over the Albion program in 1997. The late Pete Schmidt gained 104 victories in his Albion tenure from 1983-1996.

Albion scored on three of its first four possessions in building a 21-0 lead.

Dave Van Ittersum pounced on a fumble setting up the offense at the Alma 35-yard line. It took the offense just four plays to cover the distance with Colin Parks running the final 13 yards for the first touchdown of the day.

Albion moved to the Alma 30 on its second possession, but it could not overcome a couple of dropped passes. Quarterback Dominic Bona hooked up with Joe Mayone for a 12-yard gain on fourth down, but the Britons needed one more yard to convert the first down.

The defense forced a three-and-out and the Alma punt measured just 11 yards as Albion took over at the Alma 35. Bona hooked up with Zach Brigham for 11 yards and Mike Czarnecki scored on a 24-yard run as Albion led 14-0 midway through the first quarter.

Albion's next possession started at the Alma 32, and the Britons needed five plays to reach the end zone. Bona found Brendan McClorey for a 9-yard touchdown pass.

Parks scored from a yard out and Mayone hauled in a 9-yard scoring strike from Bona in the second quarter.

Dylan Zaborowski passed for both Alma scores. He threw a 15-yard strike to Erik Hines in the second quarter and a 10-yard aerial to Sean McDonald in the third.

Czarnecki finished with 108 yards for his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season. He needs eight yards in the season finale – a home non-league game against Aurora (Ill.) University next Saturday – to become the first Albion back since 2011 to reach the 1,000-yard milestone.

Bona completed 24 passes for 216 yards. Brigham hauled in eight passes for 48 yards and Tyler While made six catches for a team-best 53 yards.

The Albion defense surrendered 353 yards. Linebacker James Hartley was credited with 17 tackles, including 1 ½ for loss. Lineman Dillon Ervin wrapped up three tackles for loss.
