Bulldogs Rush to 35-7 Win at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Adrian College football could not look past Kalamazoo College on Saturday (Nov. 8) with a potential big game on the horizon next Saturday at Trine University. The Bulldogs took care of business on the road improving to 4-0 this season with a 35-7 win over the Hornets. Trine dropped a 31-24 decision at Hope today meaning that next week's matchup will be for the outright MIAA championship and a spot in the NCAA playoffs.

It was a slow start in the first quarter for the Bulldogs as they led 7-0 after a Jeremy Wortham two-yard run at 8:18 of the opening quarter. Adrian had the ball for 11:59 out of 15 minutes in the first quarter but were 0-of-3 on third down and 1-of-2 on fourth down.

The second quarter began with a Wortham 15-yard run on the first play of the quarter capping off a quick four-play, 27-yard drive to lead 14-0. The Hornets best drive of the game came next as they marched 80 yards in eight plays taking 2:54 off the clock. Alex White found Cameron Shegos on a slant from 14 yards with 12:02 left in the second to cut the lead to 14-7.

In the second half the Hornets were swarmed by the Adrian defense. The Bulldogs caused three interceptions, two fumbles and a missed field goal in the final 30 minutes. The Hornets gained 194 yards in the second half while Adrian scored touchdowns on three of their six drives after halftime.

Dae'Von Robinson broke off a 54-yard touchdown run with 8:51 left in the third to give Adrian a 21-7 cushion. Minutes later it was Emmanuel Stewart carrying in from four yards to put things out of reach at 28-7. The Bulldogs added their final touchdown at 6:53 mark of the fourth quarter as quarterback Aaron Tenney did a one-yard sneak capping off a 10-play, 40-yard drive.

Adrian finished the game with 390 total yards and Kalamazoo had 318 total yards. Adrian had a substantial 34:11 to 25:49 edge in time of possession and were 6-of-15 on third down and 2-of-4 on fourth down for the contest. Robinson led the rushing attack with 118 yards on 14 carries. Stewart rushed 16 times for 67 yards. Nathan Hartline caught four of Tenney's eight completions for 77 yards. Damon Fuller led the defense with 10 tackles including three tackles for loss and two sacks. Charles Fleck had seven tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
