(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY.) – The Thomas More College football team defeated Saint Vincent, 49-7, today (Saturday, October 18, 2014) on Homecoming at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the PAC.
Thomas More never trailed the in game as it led 7-0 after one quarter, 28-7 at halftime and 35-7 after three quarters.
The Saints took a 7-0 lead with three-seconds to play in the first quarter when junior wide receiver Tyler Vogelpohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) scored a 15-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings, Ohio/Kings Mills) and junior place kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added the point-after-attempt.
Saint Vincent tied the game at 7-7 when Darius Brown scored on an 82-yard punt return and Morgan Porter added the PAT with 11:29 to play in the opening quarter.
Freshman running back CT Tarrant (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hamilton (Ohio)) scored on a 26-yard run and Budke added the PAT with 7:34 to play in the second quarter to give Thomas More a 14-7 lead.
Thomas More increased the lead to 20-7 when Tarrant scored on a five-yard run and Budke's PAT was blocked with 3:24 to play in the opening quarter.
The Saints took a 28-7 lead at halftime when Gebhardt connected on a 42-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Dixie Heights) and Tarrant converted the two-point rushing attempt with 2:07 to play in the second quarter.
In the third quarter Gebhardt connected on a 10-yard pass to Cohorn and Budke added the PAT to extend the Saints' lead to 35-7 with 9:00 to play in the third quarter.
Thomas More increased the lead to 42-7 with 13:57 to play in the fourth quarter when sophomore running back Myron Fears, Jr. (Atlanta, Ga./Heritage) scored on a five-yard run and Budke added the PAT.
The Saints closed out the scoring with 5:58 to play in the fourth quarter when freshman running back Deris Tilford (Louisville, Ky./Central) scored on a seven-yard run and Budke added the PAT for the final score of 49-7.
Thomas More out-gained Saint Vincent 561 yard of total offense (296 rushing/265 passing) to 165 yards (61 rushing/104 passing).
Gebhardt was 12-of-20 passing for 203 yards and three touchdowns and also had nine rushes for 22 yards. Tarrant had 153 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Cohorn led the receiving corps with six catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns, while Vogelpohl had 51 yards and one touchdown on three catches and senior wide receiver Bobby Leonard (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) had two catches for 51 yards.
Defensively, junior defensive end Erick Butler (Eminence, Ky./Henry County) had five tackles (three solo, two assisted), including one tackle for a loss, sophomore defensive back Lemuel Weyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had five tackles (three solo, five assisted), junior defensive back Kyle Fuller (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) had five tackles (two solo, three assisted), and a forced fumble and freshman linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) had five tackles (one solo, four assisted), including on tackle for a loss.
Thomas More returns next Saturday (October 25) when it hosts Grove City, Pennsylvania at 1:30 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
