Ninth ranked Wartburg College downs UW-Stout, 45-14

WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg College threw for six touchdown passes – three in the second period – and went on to a 45-14 win over UW-Stout Saturday night.

The teams traded scores on the first quarter, with the ninth ranked Knights (3-0) scoring early when quarterback Logan Schrader hit Mitch Rahm for a 21-yard score at 10:35.

A few drives later, Stout (1-2) answered back on a two-play drive. Adolfo Pacheco (So, South Elgin, Ill) rolled of a 47-yard rush on first down and the drive was capped off by tailback Tanner Kuehn 's (Sr, Fairchild) 27-yard touchdown run at 6:35 in the first quarter.

The Knights controlled the scoreboard in the second quarter. Logan tossed a 31-yard strike to Taylor Jacobsme at 10:03 of the second. Schrader hit Jacobsme for a 70-yard touchdown play at 7:45 to put Wartburg up 21-7. At 4:01, Schrader tossed the ball back to Jacobsme who heaved the ball 36 yards for a touchdown to Jordan Schmitt.

The Blue Devils almost kept Wartburg off the board in the third quarter, but Schrader tossed his fourth touchdown pass with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Stout offense was unable to get moving in the third quarter, not getting a first down in the stanza until just before the end of the quarter when Cody Rosemeyer (Sr, Gilman) took a direct snap and fired a 19-yard pass to quarterback Aaron Koerner (So, Colby). That would prove to be a catalyst for the Blue Devils.. Stout used an 11-play drive and collected six first downs to score with 11:21 left in the game, capped off by a Koerner 2-yard pass to Aaron Jenny (Sr, Spicer, Minn).

The Knights came back on a three play drive to score to push the tally to 42-14 when Schrader collected his fifth TD pass of the night, going 14 yards to Robbie Anstoett at 9:58. Three minutes later, the Knights Michael Bohlke booted a 31-yard field goal to make it 45-14.

Schrader 15-of-27 passes for 308 yards as Wartburg tallied 571 yards of offense, 344 passing, 227 yards rushing. Jacobsme caught seven passes for 173 yards. Brandon Domeyer carried the ball 20 times for 137 yards. Stout finished with 238 yards of total offense, 175 yards rushing, 63 passing. Kuehn ran for a career-best 88 yards on 18 carries. Pacheco carried the ball 13 times for 85 yards.

The Blue Devils will have a bye week next weekend and will return to action Saturday, Oct. 4 when they travel to UW-Oshkosh for a 2 p.m. contest at Titan Stadium.
