BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan senior Devonte Jones rushed for 99 yards and became the third IWU player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season as the Titans downed Elmhurst 24-10 on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Tucci Stadium.
The Titans close out the regular season with a 9-1 record and 6-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and will find out their playoff fate at 5 p.m. Sunday on www.ncaa.com.
Jones now has 1,016 yards this season on 170 carries, second only to Kurt Swearingen, who has the school record of 1,079 yards on 223 carries in 1977. Chris Humbles had 1,012 yards in 1991 on 152 carries.
Senior quarterback Rob Gallik was 15 of 22 for 103 passing yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Senior Tate Musselman had five catches for 38 yards and both TDs.
Senior linebacker Chris Simms had a total of 12 tackles to lead IWU while junior Connor Klein had eight tackles. Senior Kyle Pfister had an interception for 19 return yards for the Titans.
Elmhurst finished with 279 total yards (118 rushing, 161 passing) to 278 (175 rushing, 103 passing) for Illinois Wesleyan.
