Bangor, ME - Husson football fell to the Mustangs of Mt. Ida College on Senior Day 6-0 Saturday to end their 2013 campaign at 5-5 overall. Tailback Byron Jackson led the Eagles on offense carrying the ball 24 times for 84 yards while Stephan Dance managed 12 tackles, one and a half of them for a loss of nine yards and a sack for an eight yard loss.
The only scoring play on the afternoon came just over four minutes into the game. Mt. Ida's Melquan Pinkney took one of his 24 carries on the day into the endzone from 21 yards out to end an eight play, 82 yard drive to open the game. Husson had a chance to bring Pinkney down on the play but he slipped the tackle and scampered in for six. The extra point was no good and Ida led 6-0, the eventual final score.
The Eagles were intercepted once and lost two fumbles on the day as the offense just could not get going. The Mustangs got to quarterback Ryan Stroud eight times on the afternoon. Stroud moved back to quarterback from wide receiver in the first half last week at Norwich when starter Joe Seccareccia came out of the game with an injury.
After the game head coach Gabby Price had nothing but praise for his 2013 team: "From the first day [of preseason] to the last day their attitudes have been terrific. We can't say enough good things about their efforts. Today Mt. Ida played hard, got the one score and played their hearts out. Our hats are off to them."
Both teams end with identical 5-5 overall and 4-3 conference records on the year. The Mustangs now hold an overall 8-3 advantage in the 11 meetings between the two schools and is the oldest rivalry for the Eagles' football program dating back to the very first game in Husson program history in 2003.
