Millikin Football Downs Carthage

          The Millikin football team ended its 2013 season with a 28-21 win at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 16.

          Millikin junior running back Sean Dunning rushed for 244 yards and all four Millikin touchdowns.  The 244 yards propelled Dunning to a new school record for rushing yards in a season with 1,520.  Dunning moves into third on the Millikin career rushing list with 2,896 yards.

          Dunning scored twice in the first quarter as Millikin jumped to a 14-0 lead.  Dunning scored again in the second quarter to make it 21-7 Millikin.  Carthage tied the game with two second half scores, before Dunning scored the game winner with 1:07 left in the game from nine yards out.

          Carthage mounted a last minute drive to try to tie the game, but Big Blue freshman Jowonis Edwards intercepted a Carthage pass at the Millikin five yard line to seal the victory.  The interception was Edwards second of the game.  Freshman Mykal Neal also had an interception that ended a Carthage drive picking off the pass at the Millikin goal line in the fourth quarter.

          Gary Howder led Millikin with 13 tackles and senior T.J. Sullivan added nine stops.

          Nick Pippin was 8-16 passing for 109 yards and Kyle Leadlove was 6-12 for 81 yards.  Mike Blakely was the Big Blue's top receiver with three catches for 73 yards. 

          Carthage quarterback AJ Simoncelli passed for 313 yards and two scores.

          Millikin ends the season at 2-8 while Carthage ends at 1-9.
