More news about: Albion

ALBION, Mich. – Darrin Williams rushed for a career-high 211 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown with 45 seconds to play, as Albion College remained undefeated against its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football rivals by gaining a 42-28 win over Olivet College on the Schmidt-Fraser Field inside Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

Albion, winners of four straight, improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Britons can clinch a share of the MIAA title with a victory at Adrian College Nov. 9.

Williams' first touchdown of the day – a 3-yard run – tied the score at 14 with 4 ½ minutes left in the first half. The Britons forged a 21-14 halftime lead when quarterback Dominic Bona hooked up with Justin Losey for a 30-yard score with 33 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

"We ran the ball as well as we have all year," Albion Coach Craig Rundle said. "We knew this would be a tight game. We just made more plays down the stretch."

Albion extended the margin a couple of times in the second half, but it never was able to deliver the knockout punch. Losey's second touchdown catch – a 9-yard grab – gave the Britons a 28-14 lead midway through the third quarter, and Zach Brewer hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass on a post route to make the score 35-21 late in the third.

"Olivet blitzed a lot and Dominic did a good job of standing in the pocket," Rundle said.

Albion finished the day with a 517-396 edge in total yards. Bona completed 13 of 26 passes for 285 yards. Brewer finished with 4 receptions for 106 yards, for his second 100-yard receiving game of the season. Losey made 3 catches for a career-high 94 yards.

Olivet running back Tyler Lassic rolled up 112 yards and a touchdown.

Albion linebacker Brett McCarty gave an inspired defensive effort with 10 solo and 14 assisted tackles. Lineman Shaquille Marshall wrapped up 5 solo and 7 assisted tackles, and linebacker James Hartley collected 3 solo and 8 assisted tackles. Terron Bridgeman, Chris Jakubik, and Mike Vandermus all picked off Olivet passes.
