Field Goal Downs Albright Football in Overtime at Lycoming

More news about: Albright

Zach Czap kicked a 29-yard field goal in overtime as the Albright College football team dropped a 20-17 decision at Lycoming on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Vinny Williams caught a 75-yard touchdown for the Lions, while junior Chris Stephens intercepted a pass.

The Albright defense recorded seven sacks, including 2.5 from senior JT Harding. Tyler Hamlet had a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss, while Matt Pattison had 1.5 sacks and two total tackles in the backfield.

The Lions had the ball first in overtime and went three-and-out, setting up a 39-yard try for sophomore kicker Daniel Sobolewski. The attempt was blocked by C.J. Arhontakis however to open the door for the hosts.

Lycoming's Craig Needhammer rushed for a first down, and the Warriors kneeled to center the ball. Czap then hit the 29-yard attempt for the win.

Albright had taken a 17-14 lead with 9:36 remaining, as quarterback TJ Luddy hit Williams over the top for a 75-yard score.

Unfortunately the Lions gave up two backbreaking third down conversions, as the Warriors marched off a nine-plus-minute drive to set up a 35-yard Czap field goal to force OT.

Tyler Jenny's pass fell incomplete on 3rd-and-9, but the Lions were called for defensive holding and a first down. Albright later flushed Jenny from the pocket on 3rd-and-10, but the Lyco QB scrambled for 12 yards to move the chains again.

After the teams traded interceptions early in the game, Albright forced a punt from deep in Lycoming territory and opened the scoring with a 36-yard Sobolewski kick.

Down 7-3 early in the second half, senior Uriah Brickhouse carried it in from six yards out to give the Red and White a 10-7 advantage.

The loss effectively ends all MAC championship hopes for the Lions, who fall to 4-3 and 3-3 in the MAC. Albright will host Widener next Saturday at 1 p.m.
