Eagles run past UW-Stout at Blue Devils' homecoming

More news about: UW-Stout

MENOMONIE (October 19, 2013) - UW-La Crosse scored on their opening drive and never looked back, handing UW-Stout a 21-3 loss on Homecoming at Don and Nona Williams Stadium.

The Eagles came out firing, as quarterback Trent Cummings, making his first collegiate start, led the offense 75 yards on the opening drive, capped off by a 39-yard scoring strike to receiver Alex Lepp for a 7-0 lead.

The Blue Devils (2-4, 0-3) were unable to get anything going on offense all afternoon. A Ricky Marteney (Sr, Greenfield) field goal from 42 yards out midway through the first quarter cut the lead to 7-3, but that would be as close as Stout would get.

Stout's defense had no answer for the Eagles (1-5, 1-2) rushing attack, as La Crosse carried the ball 51 times for 274 yards. Ben Hertrampf had 27 carries and 168 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown run. Jude Williams added 15 rushes for 75 yards on the day for the Eagles.

After Hertrampf's touchdown early in the fourth, quarterback Hank Kujak (Jr, Blair) led Stout down to the Eagle's 22, but a Jon Becker interception in the end zone killed the drive for the Blue Devils. Becker also had an interception to end the first half.

On the offensive side of the ball, Adolfo Pacheco (Fr, South Elgin, Ill.) led the way for the Blue Devils with 65 yards on 14 carries, with a long of 19. Receiver Brian Alvarez (Jr, Atwater, Calif) had four catches for 57 yards and added 18 yards on 4 carries.

Defensively, safety Jake Schiff (Sr, South Range) had an interception to go along with seven tackles, four solo. Tyler Naatz (Jr, Menomonie) led the team with nine tackles on the day, five solo. Luke Bakkum (Jr, Oconomowoc) had seven tackles, five solo, including a sack. Lineman Alec Zoern (Jr, Germantown) also contributed a sack as the Blue Devils finished with three sacks.

The Blue Devils will be at UW-Platteville Saturday, October 26 at 2:30 pm. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Wisconsin and Fox Sports North PLUS.
