Big Blue Football Loses to Illinois Wesleyan

More news about: Millikin

The Millikin University football team fell to Illinois Wesleyan University 35-21 on Oct. 5 in front of full house Homecoming Crowd in Decatur, Ill.

Millikin opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 10 yard touchdown run by Sean Dunning.

Illinois Wesleyan tied the game at 7-7 on a seven yard run by Devonte Jones.  After holding the Big Blue on its possession, the Titans took possession.  After a 35 minute lightening delay the Titans marched down the field and took the lead on a nine yard pass from Rob Gallik to Sean Conley.

Millikin answered back with its own scoring drive capped by a Dunning one yard run.

In the third quarter, Millikin would take a 21-14 advantage.  An interception and 60 yard return by Big Blue freshman Jowonis Edwards led to the score.  Millikin opened the drive with a 27 yard pass from Nick Pippin to Avery Aina and one play later scored on a five yard Dunning run.

The Titans Jones was too much for the Big Blue to handle all day.  He returned the Millikin kickoff 60 yards to the Big Blue 25 yard line.  Jones then carried three straight times scoring on a seven yard run to tie the game at 21-21.  Jones rushed for 226 yards on 35 carries with three touchdowns.

The game remained tied until early in the fourth quarter when Jones scored on a one yard run for the Titans.  Illinois Wesleyan would seal the victory later in the quarter when Paul Panno returned a Pippin interception 68 yards for a touchdown to make it 35-21.

Dunning rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns for Millikin and Justin Brooks added 65 yards.  Pippin was 20-31-2 for 211 yards.

Gallik was 10-18-2 passing for 127 yards.

Mykal Neal led the Millikin defense with 11 tackles.  Edwards had two interceptions on the game and seven stops.

Chris Simms led the Titans with 15 tackles including two tackles for a loss.

The teams were almost even in total offense with Millikin outgaining the Titans 378-371.

Illinois Wesleyan is now 4-0, 1-0 while Millikin falls to 1-3, 0-1.  Millikin travels to North Central on Oct. 12 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
