Four More Students Head to Guilford With Gridiron Hopes

More news about: Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of four more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Monday. The students have made their deposits to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. The announcement raises Rusiewicz's fourth recruiting class at Guilford to 27 students.

Donnie Alexander Jr. (Sanford, N.C.) lettered three seasons at Overhills Senior High School under coach Tim Karrs.  A 5-11, 175-pound running back, Alexander also split time as a wide receiver, quarterback, and kick returner.  In his senior season, he helped the team to a Cape Fear Valley Conference Championship and took them to the second round in the 3A state playoffs.  Alexander rushed for 1,142 yards and nine touchdowns in his career and also had 23 career receptions for 469 yards and seven touchdowns. He racked up 2,161 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns in his career. Alexander was a second-team all-conference selection his senior year, and intends to study sports medicine at Guilford.

Kameryn Horne (Fayetteville, N.C.) lettered four seasons at Terry Sanford High School under coaches William Till and Wayne Inman.  A 6-1, 180-pound safety, Horne had over 100 tackles in his senior season, good for third on the team and one of the top marks in the Mid-South 4A Conference.  Horne received honorable mention all-league recognition his senior year and was named team captain. He helped the Bulldogs to a third-place conference finish in 2012 and state playoff berth.  Horne also lettered twice in baseball.

Kevin Peppers Jr. (Clayton, N.C.) lettered four seasons at Clayton High School under coach Gary Fowler.  The 6-0, 165-pound athlete played both free safety and wide receiver for Clayton. Peppers helped Clayton to a 9-4 record in 2012 and a second-place finish in the Greater Neuse 4A Conference.  He is a four-time scholar-athlete, and was active with the Clayton High School Bass Fishing Club, serving as vice president in his senior year.  He intends to major in exercise and sport sciences at Guilford.

Quincy Williams (Benson, N.C.) lettered four years for coach Shane Dular at South Johnston High School. The 5-6, 160-pound defensive back earned All-Eastern Carolina Conference honors and helped the Trojans to the second round of the 2012 North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3AA playoffs. Williams made six interceptions as a senior and was named the team's Defensive Most Valuable Player. He also saw action with South Johnston's 2009 unit that won the ECC title and placed second in the state playoffs. Williams is also an accomplished sprinter and jumper on the Trojans' track and field teams who won the 200-meter dash at the 2013 Johnston County Outdoor Championships. He also lettered twice with the wrestling team.

Guilford's football team kicks off the 2013 season Sept. 7 at Greensboro College in the annual Gate City Soup Bowl Game.
