Thomas More Holds Saint Vincent to 103 Yards in 38-3 Win

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College football team held Saint Vincent College to 103 yards of total offense in a 38-3 win today (Saturday, October 27, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the PAC.

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 10-0 after one quarter, 31-0 at halftime and 38-0 after three quarters.

The Saints took an early 7-0 lead when junior running back Adam Rauch (Yorkville, Ind./East Central) scored on a 14-yard run and junior place kicker Tim Gormly, Jr. (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) added the point-after-attempt at the 13:55 mark of the first quarter.

Gormly extended the lead to 10-0 for the Saints with 5:59 to play in the first quarter when he made a 36-yard field goal.

Thomas More increased the lead to 17-0 with 13:57 to play in the second quarter when Rauch scored on a two-yard run and Gormly added the PAT.

With 11:46 to play in the first half, freshman defensive back Trey Wells (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) blocked a Bearcat punt and recovered it in the endzone and Gormly added the PAT to extend the lead to 24-0.

The Saints took a 31-0 lead into halftime when sophomore wide receiver Bobby Leonard (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) with 5:58 to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More extended the lead to 38-0 with 14:05 to play in the third quarter when Rauch scored on a two-yard run and Gormly added the PAT.

Saint Vincent's Morgan Porter closed out the scoring in the game when he made a 36-yard field with 5:42 for the final score of 38-3.

Rauch led the Saints' offense as he had 18 carries for 92 yards and three touchdowns, while Gebhardt was 15-of-28 passing for 122 yards and one touchdown and had seven carries for nine yards.  Senior wide receiver Tony Bell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) led the Saints' receivers with six catches for 53 yards and Leonard had two catches for 37 yards and one touchdown.  Freshman running back Scootie Middleton (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) was second on the team in rushing with 12 carries for 59 yards.

The Saints' defense held Saint Vincent to 106 yards of total offense as the Bearcats had 30 yards of rushing and 76 yards of passing.  Thomas More also forced Saint Vincent into four turnovers in the game.

Senior defensive lineman Jay Volker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the Saints' defense as he had eight tackles (seven solo, one assisted), including one sack, three tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.  Junior linebacker Alex Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had six tackles (five solo, one assisted), including one tackle for a loss and senior linebacker Nick Gramke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had six tackles (two solo, four assisted), including two and a half for a loss and a forced fumble.  Senior defensive back Zach Autenrieb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had an interception in the game for his 32 career interception and is now five shy of the NCAA all-division record of 37.

Thomas More return to action next Saturday (November 3) when it travels to Bethany, West Virginia to play Bethany College.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bison Stadium.
