Saints Drop Hard Fought Contest To Minnesota-Morris

Trailing by 2 touchdowns in the first quarter, the PC Saints Football Squad battled back to tie things up against Minnesota-Morris, but facing a fourth and two with just under two minutes to go, they could not convert. The Saints coming up just a bit short, 35-28 the final.

Head Coach Andy Carr saw his offense grab and early 7 nothing first quarter lead. Junior QB Stephen Braswell finding Freshman WR/KR Keenan Honore for a twelve yard score. The Cougars would answer right back, scoring the next three touchdowns to take a 21-7 first quarter lead. However, the Saints responded by score 14 unanswered in quarter number two. Braswell capped off a 4 play, 52 yard drive when he hit Sophomore WR Tyler Sumption from 38 yards out cutting the lead to 7. Sophmore RB Will Vealy got into the scoring column when he caught touchdown pass number three by Braswell. A 30 yard TD would knot things at 21 at the break.

The Cougars regained the lead on their opening drive of the third quarter, but the Sains would respond on their very next possession. Braswell capped off his 4 TD pass afternoon hooking up with Honore one more time. A 21 yarder would once again forge a tie, 28-28 . Braswell completed 13 of 26 passes for 208 yards and those 4 touchdowns. Vealy led the way with 172 yards rushing, as well as 63 receiving yards. Honore wound up with 3 catches for 51 yards and the 2 scores.

The home team would regain the lead with 10 minutes left in the game. The Saints began their final drive with 5:41 to go. However, on fourth and two from the Cougars 31 yard line, Vealy was stopped short of the first down. Minnesota-Morris was able to run out the clock, and hang on 35-28.

The Saints will return home on Saturday, 10/20/12, when they host St. Scholastica at Swisher Field. Kick off is set for 1:00pm.
