Gallaudet topples 500 yards of offense in rout of Husson

More news about: Gallaudet

BANGOR, Maine – The rushing attack for Gallaudet University was relentless on the road Saturday afternoon as the Bison churned out 381 rushing yards and 505 yards of total offense in a 30-point rout over Husson University, 44-14. Gallaudet scored 19 points in the first and second quarter to take a 38-14 lead into halftime as the Bison cruised in this Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) contest before a meek crowd of 150.

Gallaudet (4-1, 2-0 ECFC) has won four straight games and has surpassed 40 points scored three times during the win streak. GU is averaging 35.6 points scored per game and only allowing 17.4 points per game on defense.

Freshman quarterback Todd Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) had another stellar performance as he set new career and season-high marks with 21 rushes for 179 rushing yards, passed for 124 yards (5-of-12) and ran in four touchdowns and threw one touchdown pass in the win. Bonheyo scored on runs of 43, 41 and 8 yards in the first half and added a 1-yard run midway through the fourth quarter to cap off his day.

This is the second straight game the Bison have rushed for over 300 yards as Gallaudet's defense caused three turnovers and limited the Eagles (1-4, 0-2 ECFC) to only 83 yards rushing and 96 yards passing. Gallaudet's defense has caused 15 turnovers through the first five games (three per game average). The 505 total yards of offense and 381 rushing yards are the third highest marks for a game during Coach Chuck Goldstein's era at the helm leading the GU football program.

Freshman running back Braxton Baker (Webb City, Mo.) recorded his best game in a Bison uniform as he ran 16 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns. He scored the game's first touchdown from three yards out just over three minutes into the first quarter. He later increased Gallaudet's lead to 25-7 on a 1-yard plunge midway through the second quarter.
