More news about: Wesley

PINEVILLE, La. – Senior Dan Tryon (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum) kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired to lift the sixth-ranked Wesley College football team to a 25-22 victory at Louisiana College on Saturday night at Wildcat Stadium.

An interception by sophomore Luke Maginnis, his second of the night, gave the ball back to the Wolverines (3-1) and quarterback Justin Sottilare drove the Navy & White to the Louisiana College 14-yard line.

Wesley trailed 22-14 in the fourth quarter but Sottilare threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Matt Barile, cutting the lead to 22-20.  Head Coach Mike Drass then gambled and went for a two-point conversion and Sottilare found Steven Koudossou to tie the score.

Louisiana College took the lead to start the game, kicking a 31-yard field goal to take a 3-0 advantage.  Sottilare responded with a touchdown pass to Koudossou, giving the Wolverines their first lead of the game.

After a Wildcat touchdown gave Louisiana back the lead at 10-7, Devar Robinson broke loose for a 63-yard touchdown as Wesley retook a 14-10 advantage.  LC went into halftime with a 17-14 lead and scored another five points on a field goal and a safety to increase its lead to 22-14.

Robinson finished the night with 12 carries for 142 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines while Sottilare completed 19 of 33 passes for 205 yards.  Koudossou was Sottilare's main target on the night with eight catches for 89 yards.

Aside from the two interceptions by Maginnis on the defensive side of the ball, Sosthene Kapepula led the Wolverines with 13 tackles.

The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, October 6, when they host No. 18 Birmingham-Southern in a 1 pm start at Scott D. Miller Stadium.
