(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College football team started strong but suffered a 24-12 setback to visiting Moravian on homecoming Saturday. The Greyhounds capitalized on five Red Devil turnovers to post their first win of the season.

Senior Corwyn Gordon (Hanover, Pa./South Western) stalled Moravian's first drive, intercepting a tipped pass at the Dickinson 35 yard line. Nine plays later senior David London (Chevy Chase, Md./Maret School) put the Devils on the board with a 33 yard field-goal.

The Greyhounds answered with a 31 yard field-goal by Ian Heck with 16 seconds remaining in a first quarter that saw just three possessions. London split the uprights from 36 yards out to give the Devils a 6-3 lead with just three minutes gone in the second quarter.

A punt, an interception and two fumbles later, the ball was in Moravian's hands with 3:36 remaining in the half. Robbie Moyer capped an eight play drive with a 10 yard pass to C.J. Billera for a Moravian score, putting the Greyhounds in front, 10-6, at the break.

The Devils were forced to punt on their first possession of the second half. Junior running back Joe Tegan carried the ball for 49 of a 59 yard drive, scoring on a two yard dive to stretch the lead to 17-6. The score would hold throughout the third quarter.

Dickinson continued to struggle as the fourth quarter began, throwing a pair of interceptions on its first two possessions. Moravian capitalized on the second as Doug DiMattia returned his pick for a touchdown to give the Greyhounds a 24-6 advantage with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The Devils weren't quite done yet, however, driving 63 yards in just 2:51 with Mike Shimkin (Solebury, Pa./Princeton Day School) scoring on a 19 yard run.

An on-side kick attempt was recovered by the Greyhounds with 7:08 remaining in the game. The Devils held on defense, forcing Moravian to attempt a 25 yard field-goal. Gordon came up huge again for the Red Devils, blocking the kick into the hands of Pat McBreen (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven).

The Red Devils looked to rally but could not punch the ball into the end zone in the final minutes.

Tegan led all rushers with 131 yards on 21 carries for the day. Travis King recorded nine tackles and returned an interception 29 yards.

Shimkin finished with 45 yards on just five carries while Matt Wood (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) and Cam Di Fede (Miami, Fla./Palmer Academy) combined for 85 yards receiving.

Senior Scott Sullivan (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) tallied a game-high 14 tackles while sophomore Michael Miller (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace) added 13 stops. Gordon finished with a tackle, interception and a blocked field-goal while also playing on the offensive line. First-year Mitch Helmandollar  (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added an interception as well.

The Red Devils slip to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Franklin & Marshall next Saturday to battle the Diplomats for possession of the Conestoga Wagon Trophy.
