More news about: Baldwin Wallace

WILMINGTON, OHIO – Junior quarterbacks Ryan O'Rourke (Avon) and Andrew Dziak (Maple Heights/Padua Franciscan) combined for six touchdowns and the Yellow Jacket offense accounted for 580 total yards as the Baldwin-Wallace College football team shutout Wilmington College, 75-0, today (Saturday, October 22, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on the Townsend Field in the Williams Stadium. This was the second straight season that B-W has shutout Wilmington (113-0).

The 75 points was the second time in school history during the modern era that the team has scored 70 or more points. B-W blanked Heidelberg 71-0 during the 1982 season. In addition, the Yellow Jackets defeated Kent State University 118-0 in the 1923 season.

With the victory, B-W improves to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.   The loss drops the Quakers to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the OAC.

Following a three-and-out by the Quakers, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Dziak scored on a one-yard rush out of the wildcat formation.  Sophomore Chris Mohler (Kent/Roosevelt) tacked on the extra point to cap an 8-play and 46 yard drive at the 10:16 of the first quarter.

B-W increased their lead to 14-0 in the waning seconds of the first quarter when Dziak   scored his second rushing touchdown. Mohler added on the extra point. The Yellow Jacket drive was set up by the first interception of the game by senior linebacker Brett Thompson (Shelby).

After a 15-yard Quaker punt, B-W added to its lead when junior quarterback Ryan O'Rourke (Avon) connected on a 26-yard pass play with senior wide receiver Dan Turner (Youngstown/Ursuline). The extra point was no good and the Yellow Jackets led 20-0 with 13:03 remaining in the first half. The TD-pass capped off a 3-play and 34 yard drive that took just 54 seconds off the clock.

B-W stretched its lead to 27-0, at the 9:52 mark of the second quarter on a 29-yard TD pass from O'Rourke to sophomore wide receiver Mike McGervey (Canton/St. Thomas Aquinas). Mohler tacked on the extra point.
The Yellow Jackets continued the scoring attack (34-0) when O'Rourke completed his third TD pass of the day to senior wide receiver Troy Van Meter (Gahanna/Westerville North) on a 12-yard reception.  Mohler connected on the extra point with 5:14 left in the first half.

The Yellow Jacket defense continued its dominance of the game when Thompson picked off his second pass of the game and took it 25 yards to paydirt with just 41 second left in the first half. The interception was his team-high fourth of the season and second return for a touchdown in the last two games. Following a Mohler extra point, B-W led 41-0 going into halftime.

Sophomore wide receiver Josiah Holt (Grafton/Midview) returned the second half kickoff 85-yards to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 48-0. Mohler added on the extra point. The return was Holt's second career kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Yellow Jackets added to its lead when Willie Jackson (Citrus Springs, Fla. /Crystal River) scored on a 35-yard dash to the end zone. Mohler tacked on the extra point to extend the B-W lead to 55-0 with 8:47 to go in the third quarter.

B-W stretched its lead (62-0) when Dziak completed his second career touchdown pass and first this season to junior tight end Josh Masters (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and first of his career. Mohler added the extra point with 2:53 to go in the third quarter. The TD-catch was set up on an 80-yard run by freshman running back Sebastian Zuluaga (Naples, Fla. /Gulf Coast).

The Yellow Jackets added to the lead at the 14:57 mark of the fourth quarter when freshman running back Nolan Sordyl (Gurnee, Ill. /Warren Township) scored the first touchdown of his career. Mohler added on the extra point to stretch the lead to 69-0.

Sophomore defensive back Kory Gillissie (Parma/St. Ignatius) closed out the scoring on a 44-yard punt return for a TD with 9:05 remaining in the game. The return was the first of his career and third TD return this game. The extra point was no good and the lead stood at 75-0.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 29 when they will play host to the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum University on Professor Appreciation Day at 1:30 p.m.  Fans can listen to that game live on B-W campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, or via the WBWC Internet web site at www.wbwc.com.  Fans also can follow the game live with LIVE STATS on the B-W web site at http://homepages.bw.edu/~stats/football/xlive.htm
