#2 Mount Union Blows Away Heidelberg, 56-7

More news about: Mount Union

TIFFIN, Ohio -- Jasper Collins (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) matched a Mount Union record with four touchdown receptions and the defense held Heidelberg to a season-low 195 yards of total offense as the Purple Raiders scored a 56-7 Ohio Athletic Conference win on a windy Saturday in Tiffin.

Collins finished with a career-high 159 receiving yards on eight catches and his four touchdowns match the single-game marks of Brian Stafford vs. Wilmington in 1968 and Adam Marino vs. Ohio Northern in 1999.

Mount Union (6-0, 5-0 OAC) also got a sixth straight 100-yard rushing game from Jeremy Murray (Martins Ferry/Martins Ferry) who had 139 yards on 26 carries while the quarterback tandem of Neal Seaman(Louisville/Louisville) (7-for-15, 137yds., 3 TD's) and Matt Piloto (Rotonda West, Fla./Lemon Bay) (7-of-9, 108yds. 2 TD's) combined to toss five TD passes and lead an offense that generated 501 yards.

Heidelberg (4-2, 3-2) came into the game with the OAC's No. 2 total offense and the Purple Raider defense surrendered just 195 yards with four turnovers (3 interceptions and a fumble).  Jorge Carbonell (Miami, Fla./Archbishop Carroll) had a team-high eight tackles and forced a fumble.

The Student Prince was led by Germany Woods 63 yards rushing on 24 carries and three catches for 17 yards, quarterback Michael Mees was 6-of-22 passing for 66 yards and ran for a score while Dawson Gore had 15 tackles.

With winds between 25-40 miles per hour, Heidelberg was with the wind in the first quarter and tossed a pair of interceptions but the Purple Raiders did not score and the game was 0-0 after the frame.

Collins and the offense got going with the wind in the second quarter as he caught two touchdown passes -- from 24 and 15 yards from Piloto that sparked a 28-point quarter and put Mount Union in control.

The other two scores were a 35-yard touchdown pass from Seaman  to Chris Denton (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation) and a 12-yard run from Murray.  Meanwhile the defense held the Student Prince to just 14 yards on 13 plays for the quarter as it was 28-0 at the break.

Collins got his other two touchdowns in the third quarter as he caught 46-yard and 12-yard passes from Seaman to extend the margin to 42-0.

On the final play of the quarter, Mees scrambled on fourth down 19 yards for a score to get Heidelberg on the board.

The Raiders tacked on two more scores in the fourth quarter as Jake Simon (Parma Heights/Holy Name) had a seven-yard run and Wes Ryder (Dayton/Belmont) had a two-yard run.

Mount Union extended its regular season win streak to 58 games and will try to extend its 102-game regular season road win streak next Saturday at 1:30 pm in an OAC matchup at Capital.
