ADA, Ohio – Jeremy Murray (Martins Ferry/Martins Ferry) had a career-high 41 carries for 130 yards on the ground and the defense made a key play late in the game as No. 2 ranked Mount Union scored a 14-6 win at No. 24 ranked Ohio Northern on a wet and muddy Dial-Roberson Stadium Saturday in Ada.
Murray had a pair of touchdown runs – a nine-yard scamper in the second quarter that was the only score in the first half as Mount Union led 6-0 at the break along with a seven-yard run and subsequent two-point conversion run midway through the third quarter gave the Raiders a 14-0 lead.
Ohio Northern (2-2, 1-2) got on the board with 6:33 left in the game when Tyler Rue hit Frank Thien on a 19-yard touchdown pass but after a missed point after attempt left the score 14-6.
On the ensuing possession, Mount Union attempted to run out the clock but turned the ball over on downs on the Northern 19-yard line.
Ohio Northern drove to the Mount Union 28 and on third down and 10, defense end Charles Dieseul (Winter Haven, Fla./Lake Region) sacked Rue and forced a fumble which linebacker Arthur Smith (Miami, Fla./Killian) recovered to end the game.
Murray finished with fourth straight and 11th career 100-yard performance as he had 130 yards as he led a Raider offense that out-gained Ohio Northern 226-195.
Nick Driskill (Wabash, Ind./Southwood) had seven tackles to pace a defense that had two sacks and recovered two fumbles.
Rue finished 11-of-20 passing for 124 yards with a touchdown to lead Ohio Northern.
Mount Union (4-0, 3-0) wins its 101st consecutive road victory and returns home next week to host Marietta for homecoming at 1:30 pm at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
