Balanced Tommies climb to 4-0 on season

More news about: St. Thomas

The No. 3-ranked St. Thomas Tommies (4-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC) rolled up 509 yards of offense and outscored the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers (2-2, 0-2) 48-7 during a mid-game stretch en route to Saturday's 48-30 victory in MIAC football action in Moorhead.

St. Thomas got TDs from six different players and won its 18th consecutive regular-season games. UST converted touchdowns on all five trips in the red zone, went 9-of-12 on third-down conversions, rolled up 26 first downs, and passed for 292 yards.

Senior Dakota Tracy completed 11-of-18 passes for 263 yards, including TDs of 42 yards to Fritz Waldvogel and 56 yards to Dan Noehring. He was sacked just once and had no interceptions.

The Toms are 19-1 with Tracy as a starter at QB. Since mid-October, UST is 22-2, and in those games Tracy has thrown 32 touchdown passes and ran for 12 TDs

Senior RB Colin Tobin, who came into the game with a Division-III best eight rushing TDs, rushed 18 times for 75 yards, including two short touchdown runs. It was his 22nd career game when he's surpassed 70 rushing yards.

The Cobbers scored on a 79-yard TD reception just 90 seconds into the game. But St. Thomas scored on its next three possessions, and built a 28-14 halftime lead. St. Thomas scored two third-quarter TDs to take a 48-14 lead.

Concordia scored 16 fourth-quarter points and closed with 381 total yards. But the Cobbers' potent run game was limited to 52 net yards on 26 rushes. The Tommies have allowed just 143 net rushing yards per game in their 4-0 start.

UST's defense contributed four sacks and interceptions by Chinni Oji and Winter Cullen. Tim Albright converted 6-of-6 PAT kicks, and Garrett Maloney punted just twice but had punts of 69 and 38 yards.

The Cobbers polay next Saturday at Gustavus. St. Thomas returns home to play rival St. John's.
