Guiles Breaks LVC TD Mark In Stevenson Rout

More news about: Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. Ben Guiles broke the all-time record for career rushing touchdowns with a three-score effort to lead Lebanon Valley in a rout of Stevenson, 61-37, in the first meeting between the programs at Arnold Field.

Guiles carried the ball just 10 times, but three of them were for touchdowns as he surpassed Charlie Parker '10 with his 36th career score. Colt Zarilla was an efficient 17-of-25 for 236 yards and two touchdowns in just under three quarters of play as LVC (3-1, 1-1 MAC) blew out to a 27-0 lead in the second quarter on the way to a 48-6 halftime advantage.

The Dutchmen scored eight touchdowns in all, including an 88-yard pick-six by Andrew Burkholder and the first career TD catches from Yahya McIntyre and Jimmie Miller, as well as Conrad Heisey's first on the ground. Kicker Sean Fakete set an LVC single-game record for scoring with a pair of field goals and seven PATs.

The first half was an offensive clinic by the Dutchmen, who scored on all seven possessions as they rolled out 333 yards of offense before the break.

"That first half was a gem. They're a dangerous football team in my mind," said Head Coach Jim Monos. "They've got some people at wide receiver who can go the distance. We didn't give up any big plays and we were methodical on offense, which I was really pleased about."

The LVC defense generated three turnovers, with Kevin Smith forcing a pair of fumbles and Nate Kauffman and Bryan Kasper had recoveries to go with Burkholder's interception. Jason Gigous led LVC with seven tackles and a forced fumble, while freshman Dachonn Johnson had five stops and a break-up in second-half play.

"I give them credit, they stayed with their kids while we went with some young guys," Monos said. "We said to our guys at halftime, you're going to get a chance to play and this is your shot."

Conrad Heisey led all Dutchmen with 72 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Brendan Kain had 47 yards on five carries. Zarilla spread out the receptions, with Yahya McIntyre catching three passes for 64 yards and a score, Tim Picerno grabbing five for 35 yards and a touchdown, and Matt Mankiewicz getting three passes for 63 yards.

Stevenson's Jared Jorgenson, a late decision to start at quarterback, was 27-for-44 for 269 yards and three scores with an interception; Patrick Diamond led all rushers with 90 yards and a touchdown, while Jae DeShields caught two TDs as part of a 92-yard effort.

LVC will enjoy a bye week before heading to rival Albright on Oct. 8.
