More news about: Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Jake Koehler threw four touchdown passes, three of them to Jamal Thomas, as Concordia Chicago defeated Chicago 28-10 in the Maroons' road debut Saturday afternoon.

Concordia Chicago (1-0) scored the first points of the game when an 8-yard strike from Koehler to Thomas capped a six-play, 74-yard march on the Cougars' first possession.

A 12-yard touchdown pass from Koehler to Sherman Jones early in the second quarter put the Cougars on top 14-0 before the teams traded touchdowns in the final two minutes of the half.

Chicago (1-1) got on the board with 1:48 to go in the second quarter when Vinny Cortina found Dee Brizzolara in the end zone from 2 yards out.

Concordia answered with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Koehler to Thomas with 25 seconds remaining in the period to give the Cougars a 21-7 halftime advantage.

A 33-yard field goal off the foot of Jeff Sauer late in the third quarter would be the only scoring for the Maroons in the second half.

The Cougars sealed the win when Koehler and Thomas connected on their third touchdown of the afternoon, this time from 18 yards away, with 4:32 left in the game.

Koehler completed 24 of 37 attempts for 285 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Thomas had 110 yards on seven catches with the three scores. Andrew Maddox rushed for 120 yards on only 11 carries.

Cortina, who entered the game in the second quarter, was successful on 12 of 21 passes for 116 yards, one touchdown, and no picks.

Chicago suffered its first defeat in eight games dating back to last year and its first road loss in its last three contests.

Chicago returns home next Saturday, Sept. 17, to entertain Elmhurst College at 6 p.m.
