Wilkes-Barre flooding causes two games to be cancelled

More news about: Bethany | King-s | Waynesburg | Wilkes

Due to flooding and a mandatory evacuation in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where King's is located, Saturday's football game between Bethany and King's has been postponed, as has the Waynesburg-Wilkes game.

The game could possibly be made up following the teams' currently scheduled regular season finales. However, the game would only be played on Nov. 19 at Bison Stadium if neither Bethany nor King's qualified for the postseason.

"We're definitely disappointed that we don't get to play this weekend," said Bethany head coach Tim Weaver. "Football games are more difficult to reschedule than other sports, and we put a great deal of work and preparation into this game. We wish everyone in the King's College community and the entire area affected by the flooding the best during this difficult period. We look forward to a chance to make up the game at a later time if that's possible. We'll turn our attention to the PAC schedule now and focus on our ultimate goal of winning a conference championship."

Waynesburg's scheduled Sept. 11 tribute activities, which were to be held throughout Saturday's game, have also been cancelled. Those local individuals that were to be honored as part of those activities are invited to the school's 9/11 memorial service, which will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 in Alumni Hall.

The Bison, who are 1-0 following last week's 28-7 victory at Allegheny, will return to action next Saturday night when they host Washington & Jefferson in the opening PAC contest of the season, Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Yellow Jackets (0-1) are next scheduled to be in action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they host Thiel to open PAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
