Stags Crush The Pioneers In Season Opener

CMS scored touchdowns in all phases of the game - offense, defense and special teams - to beat Lewis & Clark in the season opener for both teams 65-21. CMS had their best scoring first quarter in team history with 23 points and their best scoring quarter ever when they scored 28 points in the third quarter.  The team racked up 491 yards of total offense including 345 yards rushing.  The Stags converted 11 of 13 third down opportunities (currently best in the country) and both fourth down opportunities and never had to punt in the game.  Chet Corcos (SO, Fair Oaks) set a CMS record with nine extra points in one game.

The Stags had three players rush for 80 yards or more.  Peter Kimmey (SO, Seattle, WA) had 81 yards and two touchdowns, Spencer Clark (SR, Edmonds, WA) had 81 yards and a touchdown and Alex Wheatley (JR, Medina, WA [pictured left]) had 80 yards and a touchdown.  Patrick Rooney (JR, Bellevue, WA) threw for 146 yards and one touchdown on 9 for 15 passing.  Rooney also rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown.  Jack Lamb (SR, Seattle, WA) scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving.  David Spiller (SR, Sacramento) scored a touchdown on a 75-yard interception return and Nathan Jiwanlal (JR, Wichita, KS) returned a block punt 15 yards for a touchdown.  Ben Salzman (JR, Calabasas [pictured right]) led the defense with nine tackles including two for a loss.

The Stags travel to Oregon for this week's contest.  They will play at Pacific University in Forest Grove at 1:30 on Saturday.  Pacific is 0-1 in their first season of football since 1991.
