Ferrum Wins in Three Overtimes

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Ferrum College picked up a 51-45 USA South football win at Methodist University this afternoon in three overtimes. Dominique Lesine's 1-yard run in the third overtime period put Ferrum on top, and the Panthers prevented Methodist from scoring en route to their first win of the season.

QB Marcus Mayo was 7-11 passing for 104 yards and two touchdowns for Ferrum (1-4, 1-1 USA South), and scored four touchdowns, two rushing and two on punt returns. He had TD runs of one and eight yards in the first quarter and the first overtime, and punt returns of 66 yards and 85 yards in the first and third quarters.

Ferrum led 21-3 after a quarter and 24-10 at halftime. Methodist (2-3, 1-1 USA South) scored twice in the final seven minutes of regulation to force overtime, QB John Glenn on a 24-yard run at the 6:23 mark and Vaughn Cross on an 11-yard pass from Glenn with 1:27 to left to play. Glenn was 29-46 for 331 yards and a pair of TDs for the Monarchs.

Justin Donnelly had 82 yards rushing on 17 carries. Lesine had 87 yards on two kickoff returns, including a 50-yarder in the second quarter. Willie Taylor had six solo tackles, four assisted tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack to lead the Ferrum defense. Tae Motley added six solo and three assisted tackles. Ferrum is back in action next Saturday at Greensboro College. The USA South contest gets under at 1 p.m.
