Junior QBs Dakota Tracy
and Greg Morse combined for 283 passing yards and four touchdown
tosses as the fourth-ranked Tommies (4-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC) broke
to a 35-0 halftime lead en route to Saturday's home defeat of the
visiting Cobbers (1-3, 0-2).
Fritz Waldvogel had a TD
catch and a touchdown run and finished with 149 all-purpose yards
in three quarters of play. The Toms, who had 503 yards of
total offense, ran their home-field win streak to 10
games.
Brady Ervin recovered
two fumbles and Mike Valesano had a 56-yard interception return for
a score to lead the UST defense, which limited the Cobbers to one
third-down conversion, 10 first downs and 167 total yards and had
five takeaways.
It was the most points
St. Thomas scored against Concordia since 1949 when it posted a
58-14 home victory.
Four quarterbacks saw action for the Tommies, whose balanced attack racked up 283 yards in the air and 220 on the ground. Tracy completed 13 of 18 for 181 yards and two touchdowns, while Morse also had two touchdown passes and 96 yards on 6 of 7 passing. Backup running back Garrett Engelhardt led the Tommie ground game with 96 yards, all in the second half. Colin Tobin rushed 13 times for 51 yards in the first half.
The Cobbers averted a shutout with Sean Brandenburg's 2-yard run with 4:15 remaining.
The Tommies finished 4-0
in September and outscored their opponents 172-31, including nine
touchdown passes in two conference games.
St. Thomas
now will turn its attention to Collegeville and next
Saturday's matchup with archrival St. John's (3-1,
2-0). The Johnnies tuned up for the clash with a 48-10 win over
Augsburg on Saturday.
