1982 Playoffs

Stagg Bowl X
West Georgia 14, Augustana 0
Dec. 4, 1982, in Phenix City, Ala.

Head coach Bobby Pate and the West Georgia Braves celebrate the win. It was the lowest-scoring Stagg Bowl in NCAA history from 1982 until 2017.

In just the second season of the program, West Georgia ran the table and won the Division III football national championship. The school dropped football in 1958 before resuming it in 1981.

West Georgia’s defense sacked Augustana quarterback Lance Hofer eight times and held the Vikings' Wing-T offense, which had averaged nearly 300 yards a game rushing, to 91 yards.
