Midwest Conference athletics frame grab |
The University of Chicago has a new head coach, as Todd Gilcrist (above) is out after two seasons as the top man for the Maroons.
Gilcrist's two seasons were marked by 7-3 and 6-4 records, but the 2023 season saw three of his assistant coaches leave in the middle of the season. Offensive coordinator Spencer Emerson and offensive assistants Paul Escalante and Kevin Tang all left in a staff shakeup in September of 2023, one which was also not acknowledged by the university or athletic department in any formal way. We initially announced that staff shakeup in ATN Podcast 339.
The pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Holy Cross before he was hired at Chicago, Gilcrist was in his first head coaching job.
Max Andrews, the Maroons' offensive line coach, has been named interim head coach for the 2024 season. Andrews will have a lot of hiring to do, as the program, which listed eight assistant coaches at the beginning of the 2023 season, now has only two noted on staff: special teams coordinator Nick Rose and defensive assistant Darrell Meckley.
