McDaniel athletic director Jeremy Shepherd announced on Thursday that Skyler Fultz, a 2011 graduate, has been selected as the new head football coach.

The 28th head coach in the 133-year history of Green Terror football and the 10th alum to lead the program, Fultz comes to Westminster after spending the last nine years at King's, including the 2023 season as head coach. He replaces David Sartin, the interim head coach this past season, and inherits a McDaniel program that went 0-10.

"During this process, we were looking for more than just a proven winner, but for a leader of men who conducts himself with great character and integrity," said Shepherd. "As an alum, Skyler understands what it means to wear the Green Terror jersey and the significance of the football program to the college. His first-hand knowledge of McDaniel, respect for our history and tradition, and clear vision for returning Green Terror football back to prominence made him stand out in a very strong pool of candidates. We look forward to seeing his leadership shape the future of our team, both on and off the field."

Fultz led the Monarchs to a record-breaking season in 2023 as they posted an 8-3 record, including a mark of 7-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with its second consecutive Centennial-MAC Bowl Series appearance. King's earned a program-best 13 All-MAC selections, including the program's first MAC Offensive Player of the Year since 2000. The team also had a D3football.com All-American for the second straight season and three all-region selections.

Off the field, Fultz had 40 student-athletes named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and four receive Academic All-MAC honors. The team also boasted its highest semester grade-point average in 10 years.

"I am grateful to the search committee, athletic director Jeremy Shepherd, provost Dr. Flavius Lilly, and president Dr. Julia Jasken for placing their trust in me to lead the football program," said Fultz. "I am honored by this opportunity and will dedicate myself to ensuring the success of Green Terror football both on and off the field, aiming to restore our position at the top of the Centennial Conference."

Fultz spent his first eight years in Wilkes-Barre as an assistant coach with the Monarchs working with the quarterbacks. He was promoted to offensive coordinator prior to the 2017 season. In five seasons running a multiple spread offense, King's had the top passing offense in the MAC in 2022, ranked second in total offense in 2017 and 2018 and set the school record for yards per game in 2017. The Monarchs also averaged their highest points per game average and highest rushing yards per game average in over a decade in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Fultz served as the offensive pass game coordinator in 2015 and 2016, overseeing the top-ranked offense and passing team in the MAC in 2016. That year, the team set seven individual school records and ranked in the top 20 nationally in total offense per game and passing offense.

Prior to rejoining the Monarchs, Fultz spent one season as an assistant coach at Allegheny in 2014 working with the running backs. In his first stint at King's, he served as an assistant coach in 2012 and 2013 mentoring the tight ends and running backs. He began his college coaching career in 2011 as an assistant coach in charge of the tight ends and serving as special teams assistant at Susquehanna.

"I'm excited to get started on the Hill, to work with the exceptional young men on the team, building new connections within the campus community, and revitalizing a loyal alumni network," added Fultz. "I am eager to showcase the unique qualities of McDaniel College to prospective recruits and share my vision and aspirations for the program's future."

Fultz played four seasons for the Green Terror under longtime head coach Tim Keating from 2007-10 and was a three-year letter-winner as a tight end. A native of Gratz, Pa., he came to McDaniel from Upper Dauphin High School before receiving his bachelor's degree in psychology. He is married to the former Megan Mundy who currently serves as the assistant athletic director of business and operations and Senior Woman Administrator at King's.

"The excitement I feel to be returning to McDaniel College as its head football coach is almost indescribable," said Fultz. 'Being able to return to a place I love, that has played a significant role in shaping who I am today, fills me with immense happiness. McDaniel is a special community, full of amazing individuals who collaborate to provide a top-tier education and transformative experience for every student."
