LaGrange announced on Dec. 8 that it was making changes to the school's football program. Head coach Earl Chambers and assistant coaches Jarred Rutherford, Kendall Todd and Brett Banfield will be leaving the team.

"We are grateful to Coach Chambers and the impact he has made in the lives of many students and in the broader community," said college president Susanna Baxter. "We wish him the best in his future."

Chambers was promoted to the head coaching position in July 2018. The program went 1-8 this season, playing just nine games after their season opener with a club team, Middle Georgia State, was canceled. The program was 9-30 in Chambers' tenure.

LaGrange's first season of football was in 2005. Since then, the program has had one season with an above-.500 record, winning 52 games and losing 107.

Baxter said the college aims to continue to advance and transform the football program and has begun the process of launching a search for a new head coach, a process that will include current team captains.

Athletic director Terlynn Olds also expressed appreciation to Chambers.

"I have valued my time working with Earl and greatly appreciate his hard work and dedication to LC athletics."

Assistant coach and longtime NFL standout Randy Starks, the defensive line coach, is the only staffer remaining on the school's list of coaches. It had been announced that Cory Grissom would be staying on as well to help with the transition.

Olds said the college's goal remains an excellent D-III football program committed to team members' academic and athletic success.

"We look forward to the 2023 season and the opportunities for growth that await our program and student-athletes."
