Steve Tirrell has announced his resignation as Dean's head football coach.

Tirrell spent six seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs and guided the program through its transition from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division III.

In 2021, Tirrell led six Eastern Collegiate Football Conference first team selections, two second team honorees and four honorable mention picks. In addition, a player earned a New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award, was an All-New England selection and selected to a D3football.com Team of the Week.

After taking over the reins in December 2015, Tirrell quickly turned the Bulldogs into conference champions. The team won the 2019 ECFC regular season championship and advanced to a New England Bowl Series game. Tirrell was named the 2019 ECFC Coach of the Year as his team emerged as one of the region's most explosive teams offensively. The team also had the Offensive Player of the Year, six first team selections, six second team selections and seven honorable mention honorees.

In 2018, Dean went 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the ECFC. The Bulldogs had 12 student-athletes earn ECFC all-conference honors, while he had a student-athlete earn All-New England accolades for the second season in a row.

In 2017, Tirrell guided the Bulldogs to a 4-6 mark, which included three losses by a touchdown or less. In his first season (2016) as the sideline boss, he guided the Bulldogs to a 6-4 record that included five straight wins to end the season.

A national search for the next head coach is underway.
