The Jeff Ramsey era of leading the Oberlin football program
has come to a close.
"On behalf of the college, I would like to thank Jeff for his
service to our student-athletes, community and department during
his tenure as the head football coach at Oberlin," said athletics
director Natalie Winkelfoos.
Ramsey just completed his 15th season at Oberlin, compiling a record of 42-108 (.280). However, that's the second-most wins in program history, and when he was hired in 1999, he inherited a team that had won just three games in the previous nine seasons, an .034 winning percentage.
When Ramsey held his first team meeting, just 18 players showed up for a team that was already riding a 19-game losing skid. The program lost another 25 consecutive games under Ramsey before the Yeomen broke through with a 53-22 win vs. Kenyon in 2001.
Oberlin finished 3-7 this season, 2-7 in the North Coast
Athletic Conference.
"I have enjoyed my time here at Oberlin and would like to extend
my best wishes to the entire athletics department," said
Ramsey.
Jay Anderson, who has served as an assistant coach at Oberlin four
out of the last five seasons (2009-11, 2013), will take over as the
interim head coach while Oberlin conducts a national search for
Ramsey's replacement.
