North Central running back Ethan Greenfield and Wartburg linebacker Owen Grover lead the D3football.com 2022 All-Region 5 team. Greenfield was named Region 5 Offensive Player of the Year, while Grover was named the Region 5 Defensive Player of the Year.

Wartburg coach Chris Winter, who coached the Knights to the national semifinals for the first time in program history, is the Region 5 Coach of the Year. It’s his first selection as a D3football.com regional Coach of the Year.

The 2022 D3football.com All-Region teams are sponsored by Stevenson University, hosts of Stagg Bowl XLIX, which will be played Friday, Dec. 16, at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. For more information, go to bit.ly/stagg49.

NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 5 includes the American Rivers Conference, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the Midwest Conference and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Grover is an All-Region selection for the first time. The senior linebacker from Dyersville, Iowa, has recorded 96 tackles, 53 solo, for the Knights, who take on Mount Union on Saturday, Dec. 10, in the national semifinals. Grove has intercepted five passes, has two fumble recoveries, 10 tackles for loss and 3½ sacks.

Greenfield, a senior from Lindenhurst, Illinois, is a first-team All-Region selection for the third time in his career (2019, first team All-North; 2021, first team All-Region 5). He has run for 1,751 yards and 23 touchdowns on 224 carries in the Cardinals’ 13 games this season, while catching 20 passes for 148 yards and two TDs. North Central hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor in the national semifinals on Saturday.

The teams, selected in balloting by Region 5 sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 149 nominations by full Division III member schools. A total of 76 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 16, in D3football.com’s pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLIX.
