Johns Hopkins quarterback Ryan Stevens and RPI cornerback C.J. Lyons lead the D3football.com 2022 All-Region 2 team. Stevens was named Region 2 Offensive Player of the Year, while Lyons was named the Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year.

Ithaca coach Mike Toerper, who led the Bombers to the national quarterfinals in his first season as head coach, is the Region 2 Coach of the Year. It’s his second selection as a D3football.com regional Coach of the Year.

The 2022 D3football.com All-Region teams are sponsored by Stevenson University, hosts of Stagg Bowl XLIX, which will be played Friday, Dec. 16, at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. For more information, go to bit.ly/stagg49.

NCAA Division III realigned Division III football into six regions in 2021. Region 2 includes the Centennial Conference, Empire 8, Liberty League, New Jersey Athletic Conference and Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Stevens, a senior from Santa Clarita, California, threw for 2,649 yards in 11 games for Johns Hopkins, completing 69.7 percent of his passes and throwing 35 touchdowns, with just five interceptions. He also ran for 224 yards and three additional touchdowns.

Lyons, a senior from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, recorded 34 total tackles, including four and a half tackles for loss from his cornerback spot for the Engineers. A lockdown receiver who opposing offenses avoided testing, Lyons broke up six passes and had one interception in RPI’s 11 games.

The teams, selected in balloting by Region 2 sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 220 nominations by full Division III member schools. A total of 78 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 16, in D3football.com’s pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLIX.
